Neethling Brain Instruments (NBI) Practitioner Certification

Completion of the NBI Practitioner Certification Course signifies that the Consultant has successfully completed the full training programme provided by Global Insights Consulting LLC, to become a Certified and Licensed NBI International Consultant.

Success as a leader, team member or individual contributor in today’s technologically and innovation-driven organizations is largely determined by the ability to think and behave in versatile ways.

The NBI Thinking Preferences Assessment is a validated, proven and reliable psychometric instrument based in neuroscience and psychology that measures the degree and order to which one prefers to use a combination of four primary thinking processes. Gaining insight into the way we prefer to think helps us to understand how we function and makes us more aware of and sensitive to the preferences of others.

The assessment has a number of implications for how one leads and manage others, how one works in teams, communicates, negotiates, innovates, makes decisions, as well as in many other important areas that could eventually lead one to enjoying a more productive and fulfilled personal and professional life. Developing better relationships, making more dynamic contributions in the team and making sound and relevant decisions are but a few of the advantages of understanding one’s own thinking profile.

The NBI model has been applied to more than 3 million users in more than 30 countries globally and has resulted in significant outcomes: improved relationships, performance, creativity, innovation, leadership, communication, decision making, collaboration and more, for individuals, teams and organisations.

The NBI Thinking Preferences Assessment report will be explained to clients in detail during coaching sessions, with the aim of translating the clients’ understanding of their thinking preferences into action decisions to support their professional and personal objectives.

An Action Planning Guide is designed to complement the NBI report and clients will work through it before discussing it in detail during coaching sessions. The exercise will lead the clients through reflection on their own profiles and the implications of their thinking preferences on: job fit, communications, decision making, problem solving and performance. Clients will work out strategies for leveraging on their thinking preferences, to maximise the benefits of high preferences and to compensate for low preferences which are yet important to their work. They will consider different approaches to developing skills in preference areas and do action planning to achieve their objectives.

Is a doctor a better coach?

A medical doctor may have certain skills and experiences that can make them effective as a coach. Some of these skills and experiences may include:

  1. Medical expertise: A medical doctor has extensive knowledge of the human body and mind, which can be useful in helping clients understand and manage their physical and mental health.

  2. Problem-solving skills: Doctors are trained to diagnose problems and develop solutions. Often this is in the face of incomplete data, requiring experience, intuition and the ability to identify patterns. This skill can be applied to coaching, where they help clients identify and overcome challenges in their professional and personal lives.

  3. Communication skills: Doctors must be able to communicate effectively with patients, including explaining complex medical information in a way that is easy to understand. These communication skills can be applied to coaching, where they can help clients communicate more effectively with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.

  4. Leadership experience: Doctors often lead teams of healthcare professionals, and they can bring this experience to coaching by helping clients develop leadership skills and improve their management style.

  5. Empathy and compassion: Doctors are trained to listen and understand their patients’ needs and concerns. This empathy and compassion can be applied to coaching, where they can help clients understand and manage the emotions and motivations of those they work with.

In accordance with the guidelines of the Singapore Medical Council’s Ethical Code and Guidelines 2016, it is necessary to state that Dr CC Tan’s professional qualifications and status do not indicate that his Coaching and Mentoring are “effective on medical grounds”.  The statement of his medical qualifications is to indicate his high level of academic and professional achievement and to verify that he is a qualified doctor of high professional standing, with relevant patient-doctor relational skill sets that can objectively be said to contribute positively to coaching and mentoring relationships. In addition, his medical qualifications and experience would objectively be relevant to health coaching.
