A Proprietary Self-Appraisal Protocol
"INSPIRE" - INSIGHT | PERSPECTIVE | PURPOSE
INSPIRE is my specially developed proprietary self-appraisal system. It is an acronym derived from its three core functions: It facilitates Insight into a deep understanding of self and why and how you respond to situations and people; it develops your knowledge of the Perspectives from which you see the world and helps you forge fresh perspectives; it facilitates your understanding of your true life’s values and Purpose that drive your search for self-actualization.
INSPIRE is an in-depth and highly probing instrument that helps you achieve self-realization and helps me, your coach, to identify key areas to work with you. It reveals the source and origins of your personality, values, and drivers. It reveals the emotional and cognitive affinities and aversions that inform your responses, behaviours and choices, the positive ones to be developed and the constrictive ones to be overcome.
"Dr Tan made me realise how impactful coaching can be. He not only guided me in specific areas, gave me insights but made me feel comfortable to explore my reflections freely without judgment. I am truly grateful for his support, encouragement and guidance.”
You will benefit from Metanalytic Coaching even if you say to yourself:
I am an intelligent, high-functioning, competent person who doesn't need coaching:
I don't have time for coaching
I don't want to spend the money on coaching
I have had bad experiences with coaching previously
How do you know that you will benefit from Metanalytic Coaching?
You will benefit from Metanalytic Coaching if you:
- Wish to be more satisfied than you are now, with your life path, purpose, relationships, work life, leadership, performance or ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
- Are at the cusp of something new and exciting, but you cannot yet see clearly what is ahead of you or how you will shape your future
- Are ready to get help to try to see things differently, to try new concepts and different ways of doing things.
- Are humble enough to seek deep insights into the origins of your behaviours, beliefs and values and are ready to acknowledge self-defeating attitudes and responses that need to change.
- Are prepared to do the hard work of overcoming your cognitive and emotional strongholds to emerge with new responses, new thinking and new strategies.
- Understand that you need help to elicit solutions and strategies that are uniquely meaningful to you
- Want to say “yes” to these questions on behalf of your staff or teams so that you can offer them coaching that will elevate them to a whole new level.
“Being someone who is not able to articulate my thoughts well to others, you were able to quickly grasp what I was trying to say and pinpoint the problems and issues that I was facing. I also love how you made me think critically about an issue and encourage me to have a deeper understanding. This has indeed helped me to see the world from a different perspective.”
Common Issues for Executive Coaching
Are you in a place where you want to plan for your future, such as being a student, and you have no idea what you want to do or become?
Or do you seem to already have all the necessary components in your life to be satisfied, yet yearn for greater meaning, fulfillment and purpose?
Do you sometimes feel that you don’t have a purpose or plan for your life, you’re functional but drifting, nothing seems particularly interesting or motivating and it feels like you’re going nowhere fast?
Do you wonder why you seem to be doing too many things, either at board or executive leadership level? Would you like to develop better board-management balance?
You need to lead for success, but do you wonder how to balance between empowering people and micromanaging them?
Perhaps you feel that your team isn’t really functional, you’re wasting time and there’s too much conflict. Would you like your teams to be more functional and effective?
Or could it be that despite being the boss, you feel out of control, not getting the best out of your people and they’re not united. Do you desire to be a better boss?
Do you feel that you really need to succeed, but something is holding you back? Do you want to discover and overcome your cognitive and emotional blocks to make your career fly?
Does it seem like your bosses can’t understand you and you find that you can’t respect them in turn? Do you wonder if it’s them, or is it your own limitations and learned responses that are getting in the way?
Do you try your best, but it seems you can please no-one and can achieve little? Do you wonder if it’s you, or your team or organization that’s dysfunctional?
Do you feel that you are in a dead-end job that’s not sufficiently interesting or not earning you enough? Do you wonder what else you could be doing?
Are you going through a big transition in a job or a career, such moving from one job to another, being an expert into being management, being sent on an overseas posting, or wanting to launch out to be an entrepreneur? Are you feeling unprepared and lacking in confidence? Do you want to make a successful transition?
Are you transiting from studies or academia into a career, but you don’t know what career you should aim for or how to achieve it?
On the other hand, are you thinking of retiring in a short while, but the thought scares you because it’s like looking into an abyss? Do you want to prepare for a fulfilling retirement?
Or could you be undergoing unsettling changes in your personal life from loss, separation or health issues? Would you like to rediscover identity and stability in your life?
Do you feel so stressed that your mental and physical health are suffering and you want to cope better?
Do you feel burned out, there’s no work-life balance, you’re unfit and your family life is suffering? Do you want to improve your situation?
Have you just had a significant medical diagnosis and you’re not sure whether you should carry on in your current career or do something different that’s better for your long term health. Do you want to plan for a healthier and still fulfilling future in terms of career and lifestyle?
Or do you just want to be healthier and fitter but can’t seem to figure out how to achieve this?

Why "NEW LIFE COACH DOCTOR"?
There are multiple meanings depending on how the words are linked. New Life-Coach? New-Life Coach? Coach-Doctor? All of these!
I see myself as an Executive Coach for the modern era, a time of Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity (VUCA World). Interactions between a person and the ever-changing environment are complex and fast-paced. Clients nowadays need deep insights into themselves to be able to respond with alacrity, flexibility and precision rather than through unyielding habits and reflexes, to craft novel approaches and appropriate strategic action to ensure success and fulfilment.
So as a “New Life Coach Doctor”, I am, firstly, a Coach of the “New” generation and era, positioned to help clients through current challenges. I acknowledge the modern boundary-less interface between work and life, hence “Life-Coach” encompasses a client’s entire existence.
I am also a “New-Life Coach Doctor”. I help clients discover themselves in a way they have never experienced before, thus enabling them to create and internalise new ways of thinking, new responses and new options for fulfilment. Essentially a new life.
And finally, as a “Coach-Doctor“ I bring together my own life experiences as a medical doctor, coach and mentor into one coherent and integrated spectrum of therapeutic services that spans the body, soul and spirit. I am therefore “an instrument of healing, building and enablement, bringing wellness and wholeness to people and empowering them to fulfil their purpose“.

What are coaching & mentoring
Columbia University’s Coaching Certification Programme (3CP) and the International Coach Federation (ICF) define coaching as: “Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process to maximize their potential.”
Coaches’ are trained to listen, observe and customize their approach to individual needs. They seek to elicit solutions and strategies from the client; they believe the client is naturally creative and resourceful. The coach's job is to provide support to enhance the skills, resources, and creativity that the client already has. They ask powerful questions to elicit solutions and strategies from the client that take into account their own best interests. Coaching is driven by the science of human behaviour and learning, the inclusion of data from multiple perspectives, and is built on a solid foundation of mutual trust and respect.
Columbia University’s Coaching Certification Programme (3CP) and the Graduate School Alliance for Education in Coaching (GSAEC) define Executive & Organizational Coaching as: “A development process that builds a leader’s capabilities to achieve professional and organizational goals.”
The focus is on leaders who are in a position to make a significant contribution to the mission and purpose of their organization. This form of coaching is conducted through one-on-one and group interactions; is driven by evidence, the inclusion of data from multiple perspectives, and is built on a solid foundation of mutual trust and respect. The coach, the clients, and their organizations work in partnership to help achieve the agreed upon goals of the coaching engagement.
In a similar way as how sports coaches can help individuals develop athletic or sports excellence, a health and wellness coach can help people excel in living a fit and healthy life. This may be especially important if a person has health risk factors or an established chronic medical condition. The coaching process is similar to life, executive and organizational coaching, but the focus is on any of a broad array of health issues, such as weight management, stress reduction, dealing with chronic conditions, improving diet and exercise, adjustments to life-altering health events and maintaining general fitness and wellness. The specific issues that are worked through depend on the individual client’s specific needs.
Traditionally, Mentoring has been defined as a professional relationship in which a domain experienced person (the mentor) assists another in developing the domain skills and knowledge that will enhance professional and personal growth.
But the concept of Mentoring has been expanded to become an adjunct to Coaching in a powerful chimeric concept whereby all the best evidence-based concepts and methods of modern coaching are enhanced by aspects of mentoring, not in a domain specific sense, but bringing to bear the Coach-Mentor’s own accumulated work and life experiences and wisdom. Coach-Mentors must be well trained and have demonstrable qualities of personal leadership, a wide variety of successful work and life experiences and sound wisdom and common sense for every circumstance, to be able to challenge and inspire clients with powerful options and scenarios relevant to their own growth and renewal.
Coaching is not and cannot replace Therapy. While the majority of coaching clients are mentally “healthy”, clients’ mental states exist on a wide spectrum with sometimes unclear thresholds beyond which therapy from mental health professionals becomes necessary. In general, mental health issues span the range from appropriate and understandable responses to life and work situations (which are well within the realm of coaching to help), through problems such intellectual, emotional, psychological, social and behavioral maladjustment (in the realm of Clinical Psychology), to frankly psychiatric illnesses such as Psychosis, e.g. Schizophrenia or Bi-polar Disorder (requiring medical Psychiatry).
Coaching does not and should not aim to cure significant mental health problems. While it is hoped that most candidates for coaching are mentally robust, research such as by the University of Sydney has shown that between 25% and 50% of those seeking coaching have clinically significant levels of anxiety, stress or depression. Coaching those who have unrecognized mental health issues can be counterproductive or even deleterious to these clients. Clients may not even be aware of the severity of their issues and have not sought therapy or treatment.
Should a coach assess that professional psychological or psychiatric therapy may be necessary, a coaching engagement must be suspended for the client to receive such therapy and return to coaching only after the therapist has certified that the client has satisfactorily overcome those significant mental health or mental illness problems.
